It was a hero’s sendoff for two special alums in Orange County. Both are heading to the Summer Olympic Games, and the community showed its appreciation and support on Friday.
Team USA Olympian Donald Scott hopes to capture royalty during the Paris Olympics, namely the gold.
At age 32, Scott, the former Blue Darter football and track and field standout in the class of 2010, has his eye on the gold in Paris in the triple jump.
“I just missed it in 2016 by an inch, so that motivated me, and here we are today,” Scott said.
Shekinah Leonce, who is also an Apopka High School graduate class of 2022, is Paris-bound to help the team.
“We’re kind of like Team USA’s first introduction to the Olympics. So, they’ll see us first. We’ll take them around the Olympic Village,” Leonce said.
The Apopka Froggers on Rock Springs Road hosted the event, which is also a fundraiser for the two.
Scott was also a featured guest Thursday night on Blue Darters Sports Central.
“Congratulations to you and how much we are proud of you and your accomplishments. Thank you very much,” the announcer said.
